Angel Ramos: A NYC Story

Angel Ramos fronts Issue 8 with a story about vision, grit, and the relentless pursuit of self definition. We’ve followed Angel for years through every pivot, every bold step and now we find him at what feels like a turning point.

Born and raised in New York (“the real NY”), he carries a no-surrender spirit that cuts through the noise of menswear. His thoughts, his words, and his evolution are all there in Issue 8. If you already own a copy, open it again, you’ll see details you missed the first time. If you don’t… consider this just a hint of what’s waiting inside.

You’ve described your house style as “louche luxurious, nonchalantly opulent, brilliantly undone yet still elegant.” Where does that instinct for tension between polish and ease come from? Was it something you inherited, or did life teach you how to wear elegance lightly?

That instinct for tension between polish and ease comes from growing up around people who dressed with intention, but never self-consciousness. My Puerto Rican heritage taught me that style is about presence, not pretense. My years in New York only sharpened that. I’ve always admired men who could wear pieces of clothing with such effortlessness that it felt like an art, and not a chore of the day. Life taught me that true elegance is never forced; it’s knowing the rules so well that you can break them at any time.

Describe the moment perhaps quiet, perhaps volatile when you realized that your aesthetic was more than a style. That it was a philosophy. A language.

That moment has been a canvas an artist has been slowly painting since I started this journey 15 years ago, but the clarity of that piece of art was exposed during 2020, I was sitting with my wife having wine where we were reflecting on the course t state of the world and after a very long conversation she said, “Here’s an opportunity for you to come out of this disaster of a situation and just do whatever you want, create whatever you want and ultimately be whoever you want, ultimately be so unapologetic that people either buy or they don’t. You want the right tribe to continue to build with those that want to be a part of the story, not just see the cover off the book”.
